Sayward Futures Society submitted a proposal to the Job Opportunity Program to restore several recreation sites in the area. It was accepted and funded, to offer employment to resource workers who were affected by the turndown in the economy. Many local residents benefited through this program.
The following projects began in 2009 and extended into 2010:
Elk Creek Campground - Install fire rings, tables, sign gate, woodshed and clear a nature trail around the pond (managed by SFS)
H"kusam Trail (Bill's Trail) - Build & install a bridge (completed before the Kusam Klimb) (managed by SFS)
Sergeant Randally - Move directional info signs, outhouse and info centre to the Admiral Broeren site
Admiral Broeren - Install road signs, gravel a parking lot, install outhouse, build trail & viewing stand, install info centre
Thowlis Lake- widen turnout, clean & prepare 5 campsites, build and install outhouse & remove old one. Clean up beach area & install signage.
Keta Lake - Build Trail from rest area to lake and fix up access road.
Branch 108 Cave - Clean up landing for parking, repair road. Build trail to cave and stair in ravine, install signage.
A20 Lake - install parking area, build & install outhouse, trail & signs. Remove trees from parking are, level & gravel
Stewart Lake - Install 5 campsites, build & install tables, fire rings, gravel, outhouse, float, signs, clean up site by removing debris & garbage.
Yorke Island - Brush trails, remove hazardous obstacles from existing bunkers and buildings.
