Education
The Sayward Elementary and Junior Secondary School opened in 1994, replacing the old school, which was affected by flooding. This modern facility located in the Village, can accommodate 215 students in 8 classrooms and currently offers Kindergarten to grade seven. Current enrollment is approximately 85 students and all classes consist of two or three grade levels combined. A principal, four full time and two part time teachers and one teacher’s assistant staff the school. Students in grades 8 – 12 must bus into Campbell River to attend high school. Adult education is provided by North Island College, and North Island Employment Foundation Services in Campbell River. An early learning program is available through the Recreation Centre in the Village. Home schoolers and correspondence students can get assistance from Rainbow Educational Services which offers home visits to assist with curriculum development, and education planning.
