Health Care
Sayward has limited health care facilities at present and most health care services must be obtained in Campbell River. A part time Unit Chief/Paramedic and 7 part time attendants staff one BC Ambulance Service station. A local doctor lives in the area and is available by appointment at his home office. A Public Health nurse from Campbell River comes on the first Wednesday of each month for immunizations and health counselling as required. The mobile mammography unit visits Sayward twice each year free of charge. Home Care Nursing and Home Support Services are provided through Campbell River

Public Safety
Sayward is a 911 community. An RCMP detachment of 3 members covers the Village of Sayward and an area extending from Mt. Cain to the north, Rock Bay and Chatham Light to the south. East and West Thurlow Islands and the mainland to the east are accessed by boat. Highway 19 is patrolled by RCMP Highway Patrol based in Campbell River. A school liaison officer is a trained D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), instructor and offers courses to grade 2-9 students. Trained volunteers assist with the Restorative Justice, Victim Services, Citizens on Patrol, and Provincial Emergency Preparedness programs. The Canadian Red Cross also provides Personal Disaster Assistance in times of need.
Fire Protection
Two volunteer fire halls serve the area. The force consists of: 15 volunteers, 2 pumper trucks, 1 rescue van with “Jaws of Life” and a 1 ton fast response pick-up truck equipped with a portable pump and tank
