Location
Known by many as the Gateway to the North Island, the Community of Sayward is located on Highway 19 approximately 75-km. north of Campbell River. The community is comprised of the Village of Sayward and part of Area H of the Regional District of Comox-Strathcona. The rural part of the community is considered to start at Roberts Lake and parallels and branches off along the Highway to Sayward Road. A right turn at this junction will take you the 10 km. to the Village of Sayward. The Village is situated at the mouth of the Salmon River, near Kelsey Bay on the beautiful Inside Passage of Johnstone Strait. The community is 4 hours north of British Columbia’s capital of Victoria and 2 hours south of Port Hardy, the terminus of B.C. Ferries Prince Rupert/Queen Charlotte Islands route.
Climate Sayward’s climate is typical of Vancouver Island’s east coast. Winters are usually wet but often snow free while summers are much drier. Weather fronts from Queen Charlotte Straits to the north and Georgia Straits to the south will often not affect the Sayward area.
